I Voted Prince William County sticker

Election season is getting underway in Prince William County and across the region, with two crowded and competitive races to replace outgoing members of Congress in both the 7th and 10th districts.

In the 7th District, Rep. Abigail Spanberger, a Democrat, is stepping down to run for Virginia governor in 2025. Rep. Jennifer Wexton, also a Democrat, is stepping down in the 10th District due to health issues. Those are considered the two most competitive congressional races in Virginia in 2024, according to the Virginia Public Access Project.

Democratic Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine is seeking reelection to a third term, but Republicans are lining up to clinch the party nomination and challenge the incumbent.

Early voting for the June 18 primaries begins May 3, with Haymarket Gainesville Library, the A.J. Ferlazzo Building and the county Office of Elections all open through June 15 for voters to cast ballots. Ballots can also be sent by mail.

Primaries this cycle will be official state-sanctioned elections with the same voting days/hours. The days of the “firehouse primary,” which are party-sanctioned elections, may be a thing of the past barring a change in state law, according to Prince William Registrar Eric Olsen.

With the April 4 filing deadline to get on the ballot in the past, here are all the candidates seeking office:
