Top 15 Most Expensive Legislative Primaries

VPAP examines the most expensive House and Senate primary races dating back to 1997. In the Senate, 2023 witnessed the seven most expensive primaries since VPAP began tracking spending, while in the House, five 2023 primary races made it to the top 15, though none secured a spot within the top seven.

Source: Campaign finance reports on file with the Virginia Department of Elections. Dollar amounts are two-year spending totals House candidates, and four-year totals for Senate candidates. Spending for past years is adjusted for inflation.
